A primera vista, algunos fenómenos naturales pueden parecer mágicos y asombrarnos, pero cuando los estudiamos con detenimiento podemos hacer descubrimientos que nos lleven a una explicación científica. Durante los meses de agosto y septiembre, los alumnos de 6to. año de Nivel Primario, guiados por la Maestra Antonieta Giarrusso, trabajaron en experimentos a través de los cuales pudieron descubrir que la ciencia está integrada a todas las áreas del conocimiento y de la vida. El objetivo de esta actividad es fomentar en los niños el interés por las Ciencias Naturales y acercarlos a saberes que han hecho un sinfín de aportes a las ciencias y a la humanidad a lo largo de la historia.
A partir de lo trabajado en clase, el 19 de octubre realizaron una exposición en el SUM del colegio de la que participaron todos los años de Nivel Primario y Sala de 5 de Nivel Inicial. En grupos de dos o tres compañeros armaron stands que el resto de los estudiantes pudieron visitar para conocer los resultados de cada uno de los experimentos que ilustraron situaciones reales que pueden presentarse en el entorno, brindando a los asistentes la información que fundamenta dicha experiencia y justificando el resultado observado. Así, los chicos aprendieron que los imanes sólo atraen ciertos materiales metálicos de la mano de una moneda danzante, observaron qué reacción química se produce cuando se expone un globo a una mezcla de vinagre y bicarbonato de sodio, se sorprendieron con un arcoíris líquido que reveló la diferencia de densidad que existe entre distintos materiales, descubrieron cómo funciona la combustión con una vela mágica y aprendieron todo acerca de elasticidad y resistencia del material, reflexión y refracción de la luz, flotabilidad y densidad, electrólisis y tensión superficial.
La riqueza del concepto de esta propuesta es que la exhibición de los conocimientos adquiridos en el aula por parte de los alumnos frente a sus pares, el aporte de cada individuo y la construcción colectiva enriquecen la percepción y la vivencia y abren un nuevo campo al asombro y a la investigación científica.

The magic of science
At first glance, some natural phenomenons may seem magical and amaze us, but when we study them carefully we can make discoveries that lead us to scientific explanations. During the months of August and September, the students of 6th grade, guided by teacher Antonieta Giarrusso, worked on experiments through which they could discover that science is part of all areas of knowledge and life. The aim of this activity is to encourage children’s interest in Natural Sciences and to bring them closer to knowledge that has made countless contributions to science and humanity throughout history.
Based on what they had been working on in class, on October 19th they held an exhibition in the school’s SUM for the rest of the Primary and Kindergarten students. In groups of two or three classmates they set up stands that everyone could visit to see the results of each of the experiments that showed real situations that can occur in their surroundings, providing the attendees with the information that supports the experience and justifying the results observed. Thus, the children learned from a dancing coin that magnets only attract certain metallic materials, observed what chemical reaction occurs when a balloon is exposed to a mixture of vinegar and sodium bicarbonate, were fascinated by a liquid rainbow that revealed the difference in density that exists between different materials, discovered how combustion works with a magic candle and learned all about elasticity and resistance of the material, reflection and refraction of light, buoyancy and density, electrolysis and surface tension.
The value of the concept of this project is that the presentation of the knowledge acquired in the classroom to their peers, the contribution of each individual and the collective construction enrich the perception and experience and open up a new field of wonder and scientific research.
